We are very happy that you have found
us! The goal of Les Amis (which means "the friends") is to share our
love for the art and sport of fencing with any and all who are
interested in learning.
Les Amis Fencing Club was founded in 1982 in Buffalo, NY by a group
of fencers who came together to learn and practice their art and
sport under the tutelage of Fencing Master Steve Hilbert. Mr.
Hilbert, who passed away in January 2003, was a certified Fencing
Master since the late 1960's and had been a fencer for some 63
years.
Les Amis is a salle rooted in the art of classical foil fencing in
the French style and provides its members with the opportunity to
learn, grow and compete from that foundation. The club works to
engender personal honor, inner strength, grace, respect and
courtesy. While learning this noble skill, we develop friendships,
enjoy many social programs and just have fun!
We've Moved
After many successful years of fencing at the Lafayette Presbyterian
Church, the Les Amis Fencing Club has relocated to the
Gloria J. Parks Community Center in February 2009.
The
Gloria J. Parks Community Center is located at 3242 Main Street
in Buffalo’s University Heights district. The University at
Buffalo’s South Campus is a very short walk from the center as are
numerous shops and restaurants. The Les Amis Fencing Club is
looking forward to a very productive relationship with our new
neighbors in the University Heights neighborhood and we’d like to
thank everyone at the Gloria J. Parks center for welcoming us.
